Castello a Mare: The Venetian Sea Fortress of Heraklion

I am native of Crete and former inhabitant of Heraklion. This was my first visit to the interior of the fortress since I left Crete over 30 years ago. The experience brought me a new level of appreciation for the island’s past and its strong Venetian history.
